NORTH SALEM, N.Y. -Someone pushed in an air-conditioning unit, crawled through a window and stole about $600 from the offices of Al's Taxi late Sunday night, police said.
The subject was described by North Salem Police as a white male, approximately 45-years-old with a beard and long brown hair, but balding. He was wearing a long sleeved blue shirt, blue jeans, a tan vest and a knit winter cap. Police searched the area but could not locate the subject.

A man called North Salem Police last Wednesday to say his son had been forced to go to a residence in Purdys, where he was accused of having robbed the home and was punched in the head and face several times. The man told police that the assailant demanded the victim pay $500 to replace the stolen money. The victim called his mother to have money wired into his bank account and was then taken to the Chase Bank in Somers to withdraw the $500 from the ATM. The victim was then dropped off near his home and walked the rest of the way. A trooper from the New York State Police was assigned to follow-up on the case.
On Sunday morning a driver told police that a group of runners was blocking the road at the intersection to Vail Lane. When the driver tried to pass, one of the runners hit his vehicle. North Salem police tried to locate the group, but could not find them.
At about 11 p.m. on Saturday, Officer James DePaoli responded to a call to Deveau Road, where he found a woman lying in her driveway, crying. She said she had been drinking and her husband threw her out of the house. A trooper from the New York State Police arrived at the scene and took over the complaint.
